Memorial to the victims of partisans – only the mother survived

During the war, Kuusamo was a promised land for partisan activity, and so also in Kuolio – far from the church village – the desants killed the father of Niskalehto house and his three daughters. Only mother Eeva survived because she was wounded and pretended to be dead.

Mother Eeva has told about the events of October 3rd, 1942. There were three desants, at least two of whom spoke Finnish. The enemy patrol was chased, but not caught. One of the pursuers fell in the ambush.
