The iron chandelier of the burned church of Paanajärvi

The iron chandelier of the burned church of Paanajärvi was found in lake Paanajärvi in 2004. The sconce chandelier made of iron, already rusted, and eroded by decades was found, when a group of men lead by Markku Nieminen were searching through the ruins of the Paanajärvi church. The chandelier was resting on the ground near the ruins and was brought to Finland with the men. A busload of hikers called ‘Viena Symposium’ who travelled from Kuusamo to Paanajärvi followed while the chandelier was delivered into the possession of ‘Paanajärvi-Tavajärvi’ -society.
The chandelier made by blacksmith Kultanen is now a part of Kuusamo’s home region collection. Blacksmith Jaakko Karvonen from Kuusamo produced a copy of the chandelier, which is now owned by Juhani Määttä.
